Answer six questions and get all 64 Louisiana parishes ranked by habitat fit, 2026–27 Deer Area and turkey seasons, public land and LDWF harvest, for whitetail, turkey, alligator, feral hogs, quail, ducks, geese, doves and woodcock.
LDWF publishes reported deer harvest for its top 20 parishes (Annual Louisiana Deer Report, 2024–25), so those parishes are flagged and ranked higher. Every parish is scored on USGS land-cover and elevation data and the share of public land such as wildlife management areas, Kisatchie National Forest and national wildlife refuges. Duck and goose harvest comes from the USFWS Harvest Survey 10-year parish averages.
Season fit uses the 2026–2027 Louisiana Hunting Regulations: each parish's Deer Area (1–10, with archery, primitive firearms, still-hunt, dog and youth seasons), spring turkey Areas A, B and C, the East and West alligator zones, quail, and the duck and dove zones. Deer Areas split some parishes along highways and levees; those parishes show the area covering most of them and name the others.

In LDWF's 2024–25 reported harvest, Union (6,686), Vernon (5,896), Bienville (5,625), Claiborne (5,552) and Winn (4,913) led the state, all in the north and west-central hill country.
It depends on the Deer Area. Archery opens Sept. 19 in Areas 3, 7, 8 and 10 and Oct. 1 elsewhere. Firearm seasons open between Oct. 17 (Areas 3, 7, 8, 10) and Nov. 21 (Areas 1, 4, 5, 6, 9). Each parish's dates are on its result.
Turkey Areas A (April 3–May 2, 2027), B (April 3–25) and C (April 3–18) cover north, central and Florida-parish Louisiana on private land; most coastal and southwestern parishes have no turkey season. WMAs and national forests have their own dates.
The parishes with the highest average reported harvest for each species. High totals often reflect large areas and many hunters; the tool above also weighs harvest per square mile, hunter success, habitat and access.
